Our
first full night in Cairo, we were whisked off to a tasty meal and
scintallating floor show on THE PHAROH's river boat.
As
we sailed along the Nile, the captain made sure Allan didn't make
any wrong turns.
Those
in our party not afflicted with embarassment got up and danced with
our voluptuous hostess while the musicians played bellydance tunes.
Our hosts knew lots of corny antics, which worked to get just about
everyone into the circle on the dance floor. Since it was our first
night in Cairo, everyone was pretty excited.
A classic
sufi dancer amazed us with his colorful prayer in motion. The very
talented dervish whirled onstage and around the room for the better
part of an hour, his skirt flying the whole time, sometimes over
his head. His assistant passed him many objects which were caught
up in his orbit... a sword, finger tamborines, sacred geometry props
and his skirt.
The
weather was fine, so we retired to the deck for cocktails and chit
chat. A golden statue of the hawk, one form of the Pharoh-God Horus,
symbol of divine consciousness, gazes ahead from the ship's maidenhead.
On
deck, the small talk was metaphysical. Our traveling mystic &
scholar, Kevin Ryerson, filled us in on secret meanings of the sufi's
dance, as well as his insights about the alignment of the ancient
Egyptian temples with the chakra system of the human body.
Goz
(aka Michael Gosney) showed off his crystal ball, and Rachel Carpenter
took the wheel on our little joyride for awhile.
Pharoh's
Night On the Nile ended as we ascended the steps, and reboarded
our bus... except for a few of our party who mysteriously disappeard.
Rumor
has it they had a secret date with Cheops--A plan was afoot to sneak
up to the top of the Great Pyramid.
This
little adventure, of course, could not go undocumented...
